Challenges of Our Culture

The Bible says that in the life of Christians there is an ongoing battle between the things of God and the world controlled by Satan. Many Christians do not want to believe that there is a struggle in this life between good and evil. In fact the Bible says we have three enemies that want to steal our hearts away from the ways of God. They are the world, the flesh and the Devil.

This battle is readily seen in our world culture. Many Christians do not want to stand out as being different so instead they just blend in with the ungodly landscape. The Apostle Paul said that we are not to be CONFORMED to the world in Romans 12:2. Jesus said that instead of being conformed to the world we should let our light shine before those who are lost. In Philippians 2:15 Paul said, “…among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”

The world needs a light because the whole world according to the bible lies in darkness. Christians are to be an influence to our society. The society is not to influence us to evil.

The Bible makes it so clear to what the problem is with our culture in Colossians 2:8, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” In this passage, Paul laid out the basic war with our culture. 1) You can be spoiled or ruined by the World’s philosophy instead of the Bible. 2) Philosophy and vain deceit refer in the text to the same thing. It is saying that the philosophy of the world is vain deceit. Vain means empty. The world offers emptiness compared to new life in Christ that has meaning. 3) These philosophies will take you away from the things of Christ.

An old chorus says, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it Shine.” That is exactly the view that Christians must take. The time has come that we would see that god has no secret service Believers. God expects and wants us to influence our culture and not be influenced wrongly by a culture that loves and believes in everything but the Things Of God!!!

May God help us to encourage each other to keep up the good fight. Our children and future generations are at stack. Let us understand the times we live in and know how to respond to our culture.
