The Believer's Challenge to Serve

Many Christians are afraid to be involved in a local church and serve in some capacity. Many believe they have valid reasons: some are intimidated by the abilities of others. Some just do not want to invest in the time that it takes. Others simply do not believe that they would make a difference whether they served or not. Whatever the reason for not serving the bible does have the answer in the matter of serving.

In Ephesians 4 the Apostle Paul says, that pastors and teachers are given for the perfecting of the saints. The word perfecting literally means to mend. It carries the idea of making useableagain. In the context paul is saying that the reason pastors and teachers minister to others is to make them usable for the work of the ministry. often people think of the ministry as just something for preachers or full-time Christianworkers. That is far from the truth. That concept is not what the bible teaches. Every child of God is to be involved in ministry through the local church.

The Bible teaches that the members of the church are given spiritual gifts to be used in helping others to grow and to help the body to build up or edify itself. It is sad that in many churches there are some who do not see the value in serving. It is our sincere prayer that God’s people would find their place in the work of the Lord and serve the Lord with great joy.
