Youth Ministries
The youth of any church are very important. The average
church sees most of its youth leave after they graduate
from high school. So how do we minister to this age
group and encourage them to come to know Christ as
their Savior and to continue serving The Lord throughout
all of their life. The Bible says that we are to give
to Him the strength of our youth. Yet we realize that
many young people do not seem to show interest in the
things of God.
The youth ministry must be a balanced ministry. It
cannot just be a fun time to try and keep young people
at the church. Sooner or later if that is all there
are they will find someplace else that offers more
fun? In reaching our youth they must be challenged
both intellectually and emotionally. They need the
word of God taught to them so that they will KNOW what
god expects of them and how to face the challenges
of life. Yet at the same time they need to have outlets
to have good clean fun as well as a place to develop
friendships from other Christian youth that will help
them to continue serving the Lord.
The area of serving the Lord is an area that is often
overlooked in youth ministries. Young people need to
learn to use their talents and gifts in serving others
and the Lord. They must be taught that the life of
service is the rewarding Christian life.
We have been thankful to see
the youth ministry of Vance grow in a balanced way.
There is the teaching of god’s Word by Scott Kain and Jeff Simcox.
Their desire is to challenge the youth to make Jesus
Christ the center of their lives. As they teach the
principles from God’s Word it can have a lasting
effect on the lives of our teens.
The youth are involved in many fun activities. There
are parties, Christian films, minature golf and a
host of other activities. This is balanced with service
activities such as visitation and baking cookies for
some of our shut-ins.
There is always an open invitation to the youth of
our community to come to one of the many youth activities.
In fact we have just started a new ministry called
THE LIGHTHOUSE. It is a youth center with all kinds
of games and activities.
