Does the Resurrection Really Make a Difference?
The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the basic argument to prove, as well as disprove Christianity. The Christian points to it as proof positive that the whole system of Christianity is true. While, on the other hand, the skeptics show the impossibility and weakness of the position that would contend for a bodily resurrection of Christ. A recent edition of a television program showed this fact. The host mentioned he used to be an atheist, but in time after looking at the evidence, particularly the resurrection of Christ, came to trust Christ personally for salvation. The guest, who was an atheist, was silent during the list of evidence the host presented for his belief until he mentioned the resurrection of Christ. The guest started to laugh and couldn't believe that someone could really believe in the resurrection. This reminds us of the reaction of some who listened to the Apostle Paul at Mars Hill. They listened until Paul mentioned the resurrection, then we discover a mixed reaction of some who believed and many who mocked. Seemingly, both have concrete arguments with their evidence to back it up. Yet do both rely on evidence, or is there more emotion involved in this argument than some would want to admit?
